Caerphilly Business Forum raises money for Cancer Research Wales

News | Richard Gurner | Published: 14:00, Tuesday November 22nd, 2011.

Business people from Caerphilly raised more than a thousand pounds for Cancer Research Wales at the 2011 Caerphilly Business Forum Awards evening, held recently.

The money was raised through a raffle with prizes of a three-night weekend break for two in Zurich, provided by Renaissance Zurich Hotel and Helvetic Airways; a family weekend break at Bluestone Resort in West Wales and a one-night stay for two at the Park Plaza Hotel in Cardiff.

More than 230 guests attended the tenth Annual Awards evening, held in association with Coleg Gwent, hosted by TV presenter and journalist Jason Mohammad and sponsored by Norgine. Together they raised a total of £1,123 for the charity of which every penny will be spent in Wales.

CBF Chairman Andrew Diplock said: “Cancer is an illness that will impact in some way on almost all of us at some stage in our lives. The work of Cancer Research Wales is already widely appreciated by very many people, so this was a chance for us to give something back.”

Cancer Research Wales’ Charity Director Liz Andrews said: “All the money raised will stay in Wales to fund pioneering research into cancer treatments. Thanks to everyone at Caerphilly Business Forum and everyone who gave so kindly for their support.”

The draw was organised and made by Alastair Milburn, Managing Director of Effective Communication and the prizes were won by Lindsay Doyle of Riverwood Housing (Park Plaza), Robert Cozens of Carrick Creative (Bluestone) and Pat Mears of Caerphilly County Borough Council (Zurich).
