Inspection success for Ysgol Gyfun Cwm Rhymni

News | Richard Gurner | Published: 16:00, Monday July 19th, 2010.

A Welsh language secondary school in Caerphilly County Borough has received a glowing report from Estyn Inspectors.

Ysgol Gyfun Cwm Rhymni, in Fleur de Lys near Blackwood, has been awarded top grades in all seven categories after a recent Estyn inspection.

The report states that “Ysgol Gyfun Cwm Rhymni is a very good school with many outstanding features. Pupils’ standards of achievement are excellent and teaching standards are exceptional; the curricular provision meets pupils’ needs in an outstanding manner and the support, care and guidance pupils receive is of a very high standard. The outstanding quality of the head teacher’s leadership, and that of his management team, is central to the success of the school.”

Councillor Phil Bevan, chair of Governors, said: “I am absolutely delighted with this outstanding report. I have always believed that Cwm Rhymni is one of the best schools in Wales and this report proves it. To get these grades I think you need to have something special and credit needs to be given to the whole school community for this fantastic achievement.”

Head teacher Owain ap Dafydd said: “We are absolutely determined to maintain and build further upon these excellent standards while planning for the future of this school.”
