Nelson business expanding thanks to grant

News | Richard Gurner | Published: 14:00, Tuesday April 5th, 2011.

The expansion of a Nelson-based business is continuing to do well, the company reports.

Bowen Contracting has diversified from its agricultural base over recent years into plant and skip hire, and is expanding its recycling operations after help from Caerphilly County Borough Council’s Economic Development team.

The company has recently been awarded funding from the Local Investment Fund to purchase machinery to help cut costs and save time recycling materials such as hardcore, segregate, paper and plastics.

Lyn Bowen, director of Bowen Contracting, said: “We are always striving to become more efficient and to improve the management of our customers waste streams.

“This new equipment will help us to save fuel costs driving to other weigh stations and we will be able to pass these efficiency savings onto our customers.

“We are delighted with the assistance that we have received from the council’s Economic Development Unit. We hope that this will be a stepping-stone towards our company achieving accreditation under the Green Compass Scheme for Waste Management Companies. This will give our customers the confidence that their waste will be dealt with in an environmentally sound manner.”

The Local Investment Fund, delivered by 15 Local Authorities within the West Wales and the Valleys region provides funding to assist businesses within their areas.

The fund is backed by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF), delivered through the Welsh Assembly Government.
