Caerphilly-based healthcare manufacturer wins another business award

News | Richard Gurner | Published: 14:00, Monday December 5th, 2011.

A Caerphilly-based healthcare manufacturer has capped a year of success with another two prestigious business awards.

Direct Healthcare Services Ltd, based on the town’s Western Industrial Estate, recently took prizes at the IWA Western Mail 2011 Business Awards (New Start-up company of the year) and at Wrightington, Wigan and Leigh NHS Foundation Trust’s Excellence in Supply Awards 2011.

The NHS Foundation Trust’s People’s Choice Award recognises the contribution made by Direct HealthCare Ltd to the Trust employees in terms of service, support and value for money. This award was voted by the Trust employees.

The business started trading in 2009 and now employs 21 people – tripling in size in just 18 months.

The firm manufactures mattresses which helps prevent patients at high risk from developing pressure sores.

Jon Lewis, Chief Executive of Direct HealthCare Services, said: “We are delighted to have achieved these awards and we have had an amazing year.

“These awards come on top of 2011 National Association of Equipment Provider (NAEP) Innovative New Product Award, which we achieved earlier this year at the NAEP Conference in Blackpool.”

Cllr Ron Davies, cabinet member for regeneration and planning congratulated the firm on its success.

He said: “Accomplishing growth on this scale is unusual in the private sector and Direct HealthCare Ltd must be congratulated on all that they have achieved during the past year. Small businesses like Direct HealthCare Ltd remain the powerhouse of the local economy and we are delighted that their hard work has been recognised through these awards.”
