Minister to open new Caerphilly Primary School in Lansbury Park

Welsh Education Minister Leighton Andrews AM is to open a new primary school in Caerphilly town on Thursday.

Pupils and staff at the brand new St James Primary School are looking forward will join the Minister, Cllr Phil Bevan and other special guests at a school assembly.

The school, which has 14 classrooms, a nursery and facilities for children with special educational needs, also features a brand new Integrated Children’s Centre (ICC) on land adjacent to the school.

Cllr Phil Bevan, cabinet member for education said: “This brand new replacement school and Integrated Children’s Centre is helping to provide a real improvement in the teaching and learning environment for children and adults like.”

The project, totalling more than £5million, was funded through a Welsh Government grant.

St James Primary School was formed in September 2005 by the amalgamation of Lansbury Park Infant and Junior Schools and currently has 347 pupils on the roll (including morning and afternoon nursery).

The school was awarded six grade 1s and one grade 2 by Estyn inspectors in February 2009.
