UPDATED: Attempted armed robbery at ‘dip’ garage in Trecenydd

A man brandishing a knife threatened staff at the ‘dip’ garage on St Cenydd Road, Trecenydd, in an attempted robbery.

The robber entered the shop at 12.30am Wednesday morning with the weapon but after threatening staff left empty-handed.

The Murco petrol station and Costcutter site was closed to the public with a police cordon while detectives investigate.

A spokesman for Gwent Police said: “At approximately 12.30am today a man entered the garage brandishing a knife, he threatened staff and demanded money. No one was injured during the incident and the man left empty-handed.

“He was described as being approximately 6ft tall, of slim build, and wearing dark clothing. He also had a black scarf covering his face.

“If anyone has any information about the incident they are asked to call Gwent Police on 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.”

The spokesman added that detectives were considering whether to release CCTV images of the robber.

Detectives probably have good reasons not to release CCTV footage of this armed robber but, as a layman, I cannot think of any. This man, obviously willing to use force to steal and is currently at large. I thought part of the reason for CCTV is supposed to be to aid identification, by the public, of criminals so that police can follow up. I am puzzled.
