Oakdale business benefits from council grant funding

Council leader Allan Pritchard and Mayor Vera Jenkins with staff from SZ Gears

An engineering firm based in Oakdale recently welcomed Caerphilly County Borough Council’s leader and Mayor after it was awarded grant funding by the council.

Cllr Allan Pritchard and Cllr Vera Jenkins paid a visit to SZ Gears, based on Oakdale Business Park, where they had the opportunity to see a machining centre and lathes, which was purchased via Local Investment Fund grant funding.

SZ Gears’ business is predominantly gear manufacturing for the steel industry, however they also carry out general machining for clients including the food, automotive, steel and textiles industries.

Cllr Allan Pritchard, leader of the council, said: “It is a great boost for the business to be awarded this grant funding – which has enabled them to be able to purchase the only machining centre in South Wales. I wish them every success in the future.”

Excellent, more encouragement of manufacturing industry is urgently required. Manufacturing is a sector that Wales can excel. I look forward to much more funding in future.
