Blackwood branch celebrates Principality’s 150th birthday with community

News | Richard Gurner | Published: 09:13, Wednesday August 18th, 2010.

Blackwood residents are invited to share in a slice of Principality’s 150th birthday cake at an exclusive party hosted at Principality Building Society in High Street on Wednesday August 18.

Principality Building Society was established in Cardiff’s Church Street in 1860, when the population of the Welsh Capital was just 32,954.

After 118 years, in 1978, Principality opened a branch in Blackwood and today, the branch now serves the needs of over 6,000 local customers.

To mark the occasion staff at the Society’s Blackwood branch are inviting local residents to join the celebration, where branch manager, Brent Carter, will cut the cake at 11am.

Children who visit the branch on Wednesday 18th will be able to get their hands on a limited edition, Dylan the Dragon money box, designed to commemorate the anniversary and help them to save, while adults who visit the branch on the day, will be entered into the birthday prize draw to win £150 in a Principality savings account.

Brent Carter said: “Since 1860, it has been our aim to help the people of Wales save money and build their own homes and after 150 years, our aim remains the same today. We want to say a big thank you to our members, the people of Blackwood in our special anniversary year, and we hope that the local community will accept our invitation to join the celebration.”

Until August 28, visitors to the Blackwood branch will be offered Principality’s special Birthday Regular Saver Bond, offering a market-leading interest rate of 5% AER. The Birthday Regular Saver Bond will be sweeping across Wales, stopping at each of the Society’s 51 branches for a two week period only.

Mr Carter added: “We are proud to be at the heart of the community of Blackwood and to extend a warm welcome to savers, borrowers and even former members of staff who have all helped to write our history so far. With pride in our past and confidence in our future, we look forward to writing the next chapter of the Principality story.”
