Lindsay Whittle, the Plaid Cymru leader of Caerphilly County Borough Council, has revealed he is seeking to stand in next year’s Welsh Assembly elections.

It was believed that Cllr Whittle would not be standing after his shock third place in May’s general election and the selection of fellow councillor Ron Davies to stand for Plaid in the Caerphilly constituency next year.

However, writing in his blog for the Caerphilly Observer, Cllr Whittle said he would be seeking selection by Plaid for a place on the regional list for South-East Wales.

In his blog he wrote: “My aim, if selected and then elected, is to create a better Wales through the National Assembly.

“You will know of my commitment to public service after 34 years as councillor and I’ve never shied away from difficult decisions, fighting injustice in all its forms. I hope my record will stand me in good stead.”
