Caerphilly County Borough Council is warning residents to be on their guard against a telephone council tax scam.
The con tricks people into giving their bank details over the phone. The caller claims to be from the council and tells the resident they are due a loyalty payment or a council tax refund.
The council has been alerted to the scam after suspicious residents contacted the local authority.
Cllr Rob Gough, cabinet member for public protection said: “I would urge everyone to remain vigilant and to never disclose bank details if they have any suspicions. If residents are in any doubt, I would encourage them to contact our Trading Standards team on 01495 235 291for information and advice.”
