Councillor’s tribute to Graig-Y-Rhacca partnership chairwoman

News | Richard Gurner | Published: 09:00, Tuesday September 21st, 2010.

A pillar of the local community who worked tirelessly to improve life on a housing estate has passed away after a long battle with cancer.

Ann Henderson was chair of the Graig-Y-Rhacca Partnership and will be fondly remembered as a driving force behind a wide range of improvements and regeneration projects that have brought many benefits to the village.

Ann sadly passed away on Monday at Velindre Hospital following a long and courageous battle against cancer.

She received the prestigious title of ‘Supreme Volunteer’ at last year’s Voluntary Sector Achievement Awards in recognition of her dedication and enthusiasm for helping others over the years.

Councillor Ron Davies, cabinet member for regeneration said: “Ann was a true community champion who fought hard to bring about many improvements for the people of Graig-Y-Rhacca.

“She was a pivotal member of the local community and achieved so much though her work with various local forums and groups. The whole village will miss her greatly and our thoughts are with her family during this very sad time.”

Cllr Davies will pay a tribute to Ann at a meeting of Caerphilly County Borough Council’s cabinet later today.

One of the items on the agenda relates to the creation of new allotments in Graig-Y-Rhacca – a project that Ann and the Graig-Y-Rhacca Partnership have been closely involved with.

Anne Henderson was a magnificent champion for this much maligned housing estate. Her loss is not only felt by her family but by her community and all who had the priviledge to know her.May she rest in peace.
