A sponsored clean-up at Mornington Meadows and along Porset Brook in Caerphilly brought in more than 30 bags of rubbish.

Councillor Ron Davies, Caerphilly Council’s cabinet member for regeneration and countryside took part in the litter pick with his wife, Plaid Cymru councillor Lynne Hughes.

Cllr Davies said: “It was marvellous to see so many people taking an interest in their local environment. In particular, great credit should go to all the children who turned to show that they too have a sense of responsibility and care for their own environment.”

The clean-up, which was organised by the Van Community First Partnership and sponsored by the United Welsh Housing Association, was arranged to promote an understanding of environmental issues.

It was supported by Keep Wales Tidy, Sure Start and other organisations working predominantly with young people.

Fun and entertainment was laid on for the children with music, bouncy castle, quizzes and competitions.
