Help for retail businesses in Caerphilly County Borough

News | Richard Gurner | Published: 22:17, Sunday October 17th, 2010.

Independent retail businesses located in the Heads of the Valleys area of Caerphilly County Borough can benefit from financial support to set-up or expand.

The grant supports capital investment by new and existing independent retail businesses to set up a full-time retail business for the first time, and existing independent retail businesses to undertake capital investment.

The business must be located within the wards of Twyn Carno, Moriah, Pontllotyn, New Tredegar, Argoed, Aberbargoed, Darren Valley, Bargoed and Gilfach and normally be situated in a town centre, although other side street locations can be considered.

Jocelyn Davies AM, Deputy Minister for Housing and Regeneration, said: “Regenerating the communities in the Heads of the Valleys area is vital both in terms of the economic and social benefits that regeneration brings.

“This support to independent retailers will continue the programme of investment by the Welsh Assembly Government in the Heads of the Valleys area and its commitment to improving the economic sustainability and environment of our town centres.”

Cllr Ron Davies, cabinet member for regeneration said: “Strengthening our town centres remains a key activity in our Regeneration Strategy and this is a welcome boost for our retail businesses in the the Heads of the Valleys area.

“This retail business support compliments a range of support available to businesses in the county borough from the Economic Development Team. To find out more about the support that is available businesses should get in touch with the Economic Development Team.”

Grants are available of up to 50% of eligible project costs to a maximum of £2,000. Eligible costs could include:

  • Internal fixture & fittings and equipment
  • Internal refurbishment
  • IT hardware & software
  • Websites & broadband
  • Marketing including Point of Sales materials
