A two week crackdown on illegal motoring was launched yesterday by the four Welsh police forces.

Officers in the Gwent region, which covers Caerphilly County Borough, will be targeting disqualified drivers and those without insurance or a valid licence.

During the campaign officers will be using ANPR (Automatic Number Plate Recognition) technology to spot illegal motorists.

Inspector Lee Ford, of Gwent Police Roads Policing, said: “Over the next two weeks officers will be targeting those driving illegally on our roads, and raising awareness amongst the driving community about the necessity of up to date and valid driving documents.

“Neglecting your responsibility as a motorist to have these is criminal behaviour which will not be tolerated.

“I would urge anyone who knows of someone driving illegally in Gwent to contact us with their details as soon as possible.

“We have extensive powers, which for some offences include the power to arrest and seize vehicles,

“To report an illegal driver to Gwent Police please call 01633 838111, in an emergency always dial 999<.b>.”
