Cycle path repairs at Sirhowy Valley Country Park

News | Richard Gurner | Published: 17:00, Thursday October 21st, 2010.

Work has begun this week to fix a popular cycling route.

Repairs to National Cycle Network (NCN) Route 47, which runs through the Sirhowy Valley Country Park, should be completed early in 2011.

The work has been funded through the Valleys Regional Park initiative, and will repair the major landslip that has closed the cycleway and necessitated a diversion to be in place.

Charity Sustrans is overseeing the work – part of £5m of improvements being made to the Valleys Cycle Network.

The nature of the construction works and site means that areas of the country park will not be available to the general public.

The works area will operate from the country park office at Full Moon at the Crosskeys entrance to the landslip near the Ynys Hywel Activity Centre.

A small amount of parking will remain open at the Full Moon entrance for the public to use with signs to identify the working areas, with areas not directly affected by the landslip open to the public on weekends.
