Islwyn MP Chris Evans has paid tribute to locals for donating to a Christmas shoebox appeal for Romania.

Mr Evans handed over shoeboxes filled with toys and other goodies contributed by people from across the Islwyn constituency to local Romanian Aid Foundation co-ordinator, Wendy Dando. The boxes will now be sent to Romania just in time for Christmas.

Mr Evans said: ‘I am proud that so many people in Islwyn have got involved and made sure that a Romanian family will receive a Christmas present this year.

“Filling shoeboxes is an excellent idea and will bring some much needed joy to someone’s life in Romania.

Mrs Dando said: “I am overwhelmed by the response and amazed by the kindness that people have shown. These shoeboxes will probably be the only presents that these families will receive this year. I would like to thank Chris and his staff for being so supportive.”
