Caerphilly Council ranked highly for its recycling

News | Richard Gurner | Published: 16:00, Monday January 30th, 2012.

Caerphilly County Borough Council has been ranked as one of the UK’s best performing local authorities on recycling.

Resource Magazine compiled a table using the percentage of household waste sent for reuse, recycling or composting and the kilograms of residual waste per person.

Caerphilly County Borough Council’s 51% for reuse, recycling or composting for 2010/11 and 227.3kg of residual waste per person ranked the council 17th out of the 202 local authorities across England, Scotland and Wales listed in the league table.

Cllr Lyn Ackerman, cabinet member for public services said: “This is very pleasing news and illustrates that we really are punching above our weight in the UK recycling stakes.

“The vast majority of our residents have really got behind us by participating in our recycling schemes, and we are now looking to the minority who currently are not participating to get involved – it is only by working together and all doing our bit that we can achieve the targets we’ve been set, so please encourage friends, family and neighbours all to get involved.”

Residents currently not recycling can apply for a wheelie bin so they can begin recycling.

People wanting a box for their recycling, a food caddy for food waste or garden waste recycling bags should call 01443 866 533.
