Residents urged to vote for high speed broadband

News | Richard Gurner | Published: 17:00, Wednesday November 3rd, 2010.

Residents across Caerphilly County Borough are being encouraged to take part in BT’s ‘Race to Infinity’ scheme, with the winning area receiving super fast broadband.

Households and businesses across Wales will be able to demonstrate local demand for super-fast fibre broadband by taking part in a nationwide BT survey, run as a competition called the Race to Infinity. The five winning areas will get high speed broadband by early 2012.

The race – which runs until December 31 – will map demand for fibre broadband across the UK, helping BT identify where demand is high. The data will be used to influence the company’s future deployment plans.

Cllr Ron Davies, cabinet member for regeneration and countryside said: “A few years ago the Caerphilly County Borough was one of the first areas to receive full broadband coverage when we worked with BT, so it would be fantastic for our county borough to be leading the way once again.

“Super fast broadband would give local businesses, schools and homes access to the necessary tools they require to succeed, therefore I would encourage as many people as possible to take part in the Race to Infinity survey.”
