Plaid Cymru leader Ieuan Wyn Jones hit the campaign trail with Assembly candidate Ron Davies on Monday.
Wyn Jones spoke to traders at the re-opened Caerphilly Indoor Market in Pentrebane Street.
Plaid’s South Wales East candidate and Caerphilly Council leader Lindsay Whittle was also present.
Ron Davies said: “The market had been shut for more than a decade so its reopening was a huge boost and increased confidence in the town centre. I’m sure everyone wants to see a bustling Caerphilly.
“Caerphilly Council worked extremely hard to help the market reopen and the two brothers deserve enormous praise for their bold decision.
“Plaid has agreed to invest in a Regeneration Investment Fund during the next Assembly term and the money will be used to promote sustainable investment creating growth and jobs in town centres like Caerphilly, Ystrad Mynach and Bargoed.
“Plaid wants to see other successful ventures developed. Plaid plans to create a Welsh Growth Fund in partnership with the private sector to provide a £90 million fund to enable small businesses to grow.
Plaid leader Ieuan Wyn Jones said: “Labour’s lack of ideas and lack of ambition for Caerphilly is shocking. Despite weeks of campaigning we still haven’t heard anything from them about how they will improve our education or health services, and how they plan to develop the economy for the next generation.
“For a party which has held power for so long in this area, their lack of vision and ambition is tragic. Caerphilly cannot afford to reward Labour failure by giving them a free hand to manage decline for the next five years. Our people and our communities deserve so much more, and Plaid Cymru is the only party which believes that a better Wales is possible.”
Its interesting that Ieuan Wyn Jones claims that Plaid are the only party which believes that a better Wales is possible. That might be his personal view but he has a tough job on his hands convincing the rest of the Welsh electorate. Opinion polls show that Plaid are running in third place behind the hated Tories and are in serious risk of polling less than they did in 2007. More worrying for plaid is the recent ITV/YOUGOV poll which demonstrated even among Plaid supporters, Labour's first minister Carwyn Jones is a more popular choice as first minister. I think Plaid Cymru should stop their nonsense and address the serious credibility gap they have with their Party leader and choice of Candidate for Caerphilly.
Contary to what Plaid are saying, Labour have been making the running by highlighting our policy to cap tuition fees at their current rate for Welsh students, maintain the educational maintainence allowance, keep free prescriptions maintain free bus travel and introduce a Welsh jobs fund.
The point needs to be made that Labour are the only party gunning for an overall majority, the other parties are simply looking for coalitions. Plaid Cymru have refused to confirm whether they will try to seek a coalition with the Tories in the event that no single party has majority control. The voters of Caerphilly and the rest of Wales need to know that the only party who can prevent a grotesque Tory – led rainbow coalition next month is the Labour Party. My plea to the elctorate is:
Vote Labour on May 5th!!
I agree with every word said by James Pritchard, a vote for plaid is a vote for a Tory lead coalition, Ron Davies has shown he is a man of many colours, Blue could be next, more shaddy, something of the night, deals to be done I suspect.
If Plaid Cymru wer`nt so guilty of failure in their running of the Caerphilly Council perhaps Ron would`nt be so keen to get out of the hole he has dug himself into. He knows that come next years Local Council elections he will be on the scrap heap again, and if he fails to get this seat in the Assembly, the people of Bedwas and Machen will see to it that he is not re-elacted to his Council enclave.
No-ones likes a clever dick, and doing shaddy deals with other Plaid Councillors on election night 2009 to prop them up in the Council, when the good people of Machen and Bedwas had just that night so roundly rejected Plaid Cymru will come home to haunt him, and Plaid Cymru.
Jeff Cuthbert is the man, the only acceptable candidate in this election to represent Caerphilly.
Dear Jeffrey
If your elacted then I am also elacted – can you tell me what it means ?
What are you doing for Christmas – you know my 'mi casa es su casa' provided you can elacted the tree for us.
Does it mean 'erect , I can only assume it does.
David

My house is also your house, But you can erect the tree, not this Christmas unfortunatly, but lets all join in and see who gets elacted first?.
Peter, YOUR second Cousin, I bet you didnt know I existed, never had a christmas card, my house is your house indeed!!!!
