Aberbargoed Library to close in March

News | Richard Gurner | Published: 16:18, Wednesday February 15th, 2012.

Aberbargoed Library will be closing its doors for the final time on Friday March 9, Caerphilly County Borough Council has announced.

The council made the decision to close the library last year – despite opposition from residents and councillors. The council argued that keeping the library open would be too costly and the fact that a new expanded library had been opened in Bargoed in the old Hanbury Chapel.

Notices will be on display in the library to inform residents of the closure period.

Local library users will also have information about services available in the four other local libraries in Pengam, Blackwood, New Tredegar and Bargoed.

Cllr Phil Bevan, cabinet member for education lifelong learning and leisure, said: “We will also be telling local residents about our ‘LibraryLink’ Housebound Mobile vehicle which can bring the services right to their door if they have mobility issues. We are sure once people try out the new libraries they’ll realise how easy it is to use them.”
