More shoppers visiting Bargoed town centre

News | Richard Gurner | Published: 11:00, Friday November 19th, 2010.

Business is booming in Bargoed – new footfall figures for the town suggest.

More than18,000 shoppers visited Bargoed town centre last week with footfall 11% up for the north end of the town centre, compared to this time last year. The sourthen end has shown an increase of 13%.

Councillor Ron Davies, cabinet member for regeneration, welcomed the news.

He said: “It’s great to see that local people are turning out to support Bargoed town centre and help local traders during these difficult times. There are big changes taking place in Bargoed at the moment and the ongoing regeneration schemes promise to deliver a bright future for the town.”

Despite the current economic downturn, the council said Bargoed has a low vacancy rate and continues to attract new businesses.

Two recent additions to the town centre are furniture retailers Comfort Zone and the Wood Burning Stove Centre.

Cllr Davies added: “Bargoed, Blackwood, Caerphilly, Newbridge, Rhymney, Risca and Ystrad Mynach all offer a unique shopping experience and boast a good mix of larger retail stores as well as smaller independent traders. I would urge local shoppers to continue to support our town centres in the run up to Christmas and give the local economy a much needed boost.”
