A Bedwas man has helped raise £500 for charity by walking across hot coals.

Swalec customer service advisor John Fradley joined colleague Angela James, of Cwmbran, at the company’s Cardiff Gate offices for the hot challenge.

The pair underwent training beforehand so that they could safely walk the five metres over the hot embers.

John said: “Angela mentioned that she was going to take part in the firewalk and I thought it sounded like a fantastic life experience and not the kind of thing you could try at home.

“Some of my friends serve in the forces and I wanted to offer my support for Help for Heroes because of the excellent work that they do for servicemen and women.”

Bryn Parry, chief executive and co-founder of Help for Heroes said: “When we decided to do our bit to help wounded servicemen in 2007 we had no idea so many people across the UK would decide to join us and together, create the Help for Heroes phenomenon.

“Every penny of the money raised is used to provide direct, practical support to those wounded in the service of our country. We’d like to say a huge thank you to Angela and John for taking on this incredible fundraising activity and to the Swalec team for their support.”
