Caerphilly Council declares war on dog mess

News | Richard Gurner | Published: 11:15, Tuesday November 23rd, 2010.

Caerphilly County Borough Council has said it will not tolerate dog owners failing to clean up after their animal in public places.

The local authority has said that it will prosecute owners if it has evidence of them leaving dog mess on the ground.

Councillor Rob Gough, cabinet member for public protection, engineering and transport, said: “We are well aware it is the minority of dog owners tarnishing the reputation of the many throughout the county borough, however this is a serious problem and we are determined to tackle it.

“We take every case of reported dog fouling very seriously, and I hope that the prosecution measures we have in place show that small minority that failing to take their environmental responsibilities seriously could cost them dearly.”

Dog owners could be liable for a fine of up to £1,000 if found guilty of not cleaning up mess and refusing to pay the initial £75 fine.

To report instances of dog fouling or littering in the Caerphilly County Borough or call 01443 866 566 or visit www.caerphilly.gov.uk/streetpride
