Caerphilly Council prepared for cold weather

News | Richard Gurner | Published: 15:58, Sunday November 28th, 2010.

With temperatures dropping further and blizzards expected during the early part of next week, Caerphilly County Borough Council has said it is prepared for the worst.

The local authority has said it has 8,000 tonnes of grit salt to treat the roads during the bad weather and has twice as much storage capacity compared to last winter.

The council has updated its Winter Service Plan in light of the worst conditions experienced last year. The document is action plan for council staff during bad weather to keep the major roads throughout the county borough moving.

Councillor Rob Gough, cabinet member for public protection, engineering and transport said: “We were one of the first councils in Wales to restock our salt barns and refill our 750 roadside grit bins. In addition to this, further salt storage space has been identified that will allow a doubling of the amount of grit available to use within the county borough.”
