Musical theatre students from Coleg Gwent’s Crosskeys campus are aiming for chart success after they recorded and released a festive song.
The track, called Proudly In The Forest, is an original Christmas tune composed last year by Coleg Gwent Performing Arts Lecturer Sylvia Strand, and is available for download from iTunes.
The song needs to be downloaded at least 4,000 time to chart. Proceeds from the song will towards funding a musical presentation in Disneyland, Paris in April next year.
The French trip will give students a chance to perform at one of the most famous venues in the entertainment industry.
As well as releasing the song to raise, students are holding Christmas cabaret shows on December 8 and December 9 at 7pm, at the Crosskeys campus theatre.
Musical Theatre lecturer Cheryl Harper said: “We are all very excited that our Christmas song is available for download on iTunes.
“Students hope that people will really get behind them and download their song. If enough people download it, we could even make it to the charts. The sale of Proudly In The Forest will help fund our performance in Paris next year and we hope as many people as possible will buy it and support our students.
“The group have worked incredibly hard preparing for the cabaret show. It’ll be great fun for audiences who will get the chance to see our original Christmas song performed live. We hope it will kick-start the festive season and really showcase our creative talent too.”
