A tram driver who knocked down and killed a Trinant woman on Blackpool promenade has been jailed for 15 months.
Maureen Foxwell, 70, was knocked down by the speeding tram as she celebrated her 48th wedding anniversary with husband Barry, 70, at the famous resort in August last year.
Paul Edensor, 36, of Alexander Road, Thornton Cleveleys, was jailed for 15 months at Preston Crown Court after admitting causing death by careless driving.
The court was told Edensor, who had been driving trams for two months, had been travelling between 13mph and 17mph when he knocked down Mrs Foxwell, of Princess Crescent, near a tram stop.
The speed limit near a stop is 4mph. The court was also told the driver had already been warned of his speeding by his employers Blackpool Transport.
Edensor was also banned from driving for four years.
Acting Sgt Adam Lloyd, of Lancashire Police, said: “The family are content with the sentence but in no way does that ease the pain of the loss of a mother and wife.”
