School children have been busy catching speeding drivers outside their school gates.

Youngsters across Caerphilly County Borough have been using speed guns to measure how fast drivers have been going on roads near their school.

Road safety officers from Caerphilly County Borough Council visited schools across the borough to help children as part of Road Safety Week.

Cllr Rob Gough, cabinet member for public protection, engineering and transport said: “Statistics show us that someone is killed by a speeding driver every 15 hours in the UK, so raising awareness of traffic speed is vital in our quest for even safer roads.

“A lot of excellent work takes place across our county borough to encourage and promote road safety, and it is especially pleasing that through this initiative our youngsters were able to make their voices heard on how speed affects their lives.”
