Caerphilly County Borough Council has issued the following information regarding its services.

A statement on its website reads: “With snow still on the roads and footpaths and continued freezing temperatures conditions within Caerphilly County Borough Council remain extremely dangerous.

“Staff are working hard to respond to the situation, endeavouring to deliver all services as normal where possible whilst negotiating the icy road conditions. The current conditions have seen an increase in call volumes through our main switchboard, to the highways department and public services team.”

Refuse and recycling
Refuse and Recycling crews have been deployed and will be collecting where possible where it is safe to do so. Crews will also be going back to areas that were not collected between Friday December 18 and Tuesday December 21.

Some roads are still inaccessible/unsafe for the council’s heavy collection vehicles. The council has said it will collect any additional bagged refuse and recycling left alongside bins when the weather improves.

Civic Amenity Sites
Civic Amenity sites will be open as normal – however due to the dangerous conditions opening hours may be restricted and in some sites attendants may meet you at the gate as it is dangerous for cars to access.

Highways
The council’s highways team are clearing main roads and concentrating their efforts around surgeries, OAP complexes and dealing with medical emergencies.

The team is also refilling grit bins where resources and conditions allow. Some side roads and footpaths are still treacherous and people should remain cautious.

All service requests dealt with during this period will be prioritised dependant on risk.

There are no known road closures at this time.

Social services
Adult Social Services will continue to provide normal services to those who receive social care services for as long as conditions allow. If conditions disrupt services, contact will be made with those people affected. Contact Adult Services Duty Information team on 0808 1002500 for further advice.

Children’s’ Social Services will provide normal services for as long as conditions allow, if conditions disrupt services please contact the Contact and Referral Team 0808 1001727 for further advice.

Social services provide an emergency service outside of normal office hours. The emergency team can be contacted on 0800 3284432. Their operating hours are 5pm until 8.30am Monday to Thursday, and Friday 4.30pm through to 8.30am Monday morning. This service deals only with emergency situations that cannot wait until the next working day.
