Caerphilly Council appeals for more foster carers

News | Richard Gurner | Published: 11:00, Wednesday January 12th, 2011.

Caerphilly County Borough Council is looking for more foster carers in the county borough who would be willing to help give a child a good start in life.

The Council is currently looking particularly to recruit foster carers who would be willing to care for children over the age of ten.

Councillor Judith Pritchard, cabinet member for social services said: “Foster carers make a tremendous difference to the lives of so many children, and I would encourage people to have a serious think about whether this is something they would like to pursue.

Many people I speak to are surprised to hear that the only criteria necessary to be eligible as a foster carer are to have some space in your home and time in your life – those who work aren’t excluded, neither are those who rent their property or those with a disability.

Although fostering is a very big commitment to make, the reward of seeing a child that has been in your care go on to make a good start in life is fantastic.”

Foster carers must be at least 21-years-old and there is no upper age limit. As well as full training and continuous support, foster carers are also given financial assistance, including generous fees.
