Farmers are being urged to join a rural crime prevention scheme in the Caerphilly County Borough.
Gwent Police and South Wales Police have worked with the National Farmers Union (NFU) Mutual, NFU Cymru and the Farmers Union Wales (FUW) to develop the scheme called Farm Watch.
Sergeant Andy O’Keefe, of Gwent Police, help start Farm Watch in the force area.
He said: “The Farm Watch scheme was introduced four years ago and since its inception in the Caerphilly area I am pleased to say that it has grown in size and now includes Blaenau Gwent and Torfaen areas.”
Like Neighbourhood Watch and Park Watch, members are encouraged to report all incidents of crime, vandalism and antisocial behaviour as well as any suspicious activity. They also receive crime prevention advice and updates from local officers on any issues that they could help protect themselves against crime.
PCSO Neville Davies, co-ordinator for the commons from Gelligaer to Caerphilly said: “This is a unique opportunity for us to disrupt criminal activity against the farming community and to build a better working relationship with farmers and commoners.
“It also offers us a chance to combat illegal off-roading, fly tipping, theft of livestock and other issues that cause financial loss to the farmers and affect quality of life.”
