No campaign for more Welsh Assembly powers launched in Newbridge

The campaign against giving the Welsh Assembly more law-making powers was officially launched last night at Newbridge Rugby Club.

The group, called True Wales, explained why it thought giving Wales more power was the wrong thing to do but also revealed that it would not be seeking official lead campaign status and would turn down £70,000 of public funding.

The refusal of a funding by True Wales means the Yes for Wales campaign will not receive funding.

True Wales director Rachel Banner, a teacher and Labour Party memner, said: “Enough of the hard-earned money of the hard-working people of Wales has been spent on giving more power to politicians.

“But – so far – with the tools it already has, the Assembly has failed to achieve what was promised in 1997.”

The opposing Yes For Wales campaign is backed by the leaders of Wales’ four main political parties.

The referendum will be held on 3 March.

Before I could support the Welsh Assembly having unfettered powers on the 20 devolved areas I would want to know what new legislation hey intend to pass So far since created the Welsh Assembly has been a disaster ,wasting money on new offices ,unnecessary administration and "spreading the benefits of devolution" rather than reducing the cost of government and increasing Wales's ability to create wealth and reduce taxes.

IT AMAZES ME THE INCONSISTENCY SHOWED BY "THE UNITED KINGDOM INDEPENDENCE PARTY" ON THIS ISSUE.THOGH FOR ME,TYPICAL OF RIGHT-WING PARTIES.THEY CLEARLY WISH THE WELSH PEOPLE TO CONTINUE PAYING THE FINANCIAL COST,AS AT PRESENCE FOR THE PRESENT PARLIAMENTARY PROCEDURES.YET BALK AT SIMILAR COSTS DEMANDED OF U.K. TAX PAYERS BY THE EUROPEAN UNION.AND CLEARLY THEY WOULD WISH US TO RETURN TO A SITUATION THE "STATUS QUO ANTE PRO CAMBRIA" AS PERHAPS I MIGHT DESCRIBE IT.WHERE GENERATIONS OF THE PEOPLE IN WALES WERE CONSTITUTIONALLY SUBJECT TO THE SAME LEGALISATION AS THAT OF ENGLAND.OFTEN,PASSED BY GOVERNMENTS IN "WESTMINISTER" WHICH IN NO WAY REFLECTED THE VIEWS OF THE WELSH ELECTORATE.AS "OF COURSE" IN NO WAY DID THE PEOPLE OF WALES BENEFIT FROM THE HISTORICAL AUTONOMIES OF SCOTLAND AND EVEN MORE NORTHERN IRELAND,GAVE TO THEIR CITIZENRY.SPECIFALLY,THIS WOULD MEAN FOR EXAMPLE,STUDENTS IN WALES SUBJECT TO "UNCAPPED" TUITION FEES PROPOSED FOR ENGLISH STUDENTS.AND YET THIS A PARTY THAT IS STRONGLY OPPOSED TO WHAT THEY SEE AS "EUROPEAN LEGALISATION" BEING CONTINUALLY IMPOSED UPON US.
