Children’s creativity helps spread substance misuse message

News | Richard Gurner | Published: 15:00, Tuesday March 27th, 2012.

Young people have been getting creative while learning about the dangers of drugs.

The Cannabus, a project where young people decorate their own bus with messages about cannabis use and its risks, is being promoted by the CRI Caerphilly and Blaenau Gwent Young Person’s Substance Misuse Service.

The service says it has been overwhelmed by the response from youth groups and schools whose work it now on display to inspire others.

Lisa Osmond, young person’s worker for the service, said: “The Cannabus is a way for us to encourage young people to open up about drug misuse.

“They don’t have to have had personal experience with cannabis, we discovered everyone has thoughts and ideas about it and the dangers it can cause.

“We have been really impressed with the messages, poems and the pictures the Cannabus has produced and we hope it will be a great opportunity for us to encourage young people to educate themselves about the dangers of drug use and to ask any questions they may have.”
