Care home operator welcomes dementia funding

A care home operator has given his backing to rise in funding for dementia.

HC-One runs 241 care homes for older people across the UK, including three in Caerphilly.

The funding for dementias is set to double to £66 million by 2015.

Dr Chai Patel, chairman of HC-One, said: “Dementia is one of the biggest health and social care challenges of this generation.

“This move demonstrates that the Government is responding to this crisis that affects so many people and their families.

“I am proud to say that support and care for dementia sufferers is a central service at HC-One and we look forward to discovering ways this research will enable us to enhance the care we provide.

“We remain very hopeful that a cross-party consensus will emerge on the future funding of long term care.”
