An area of overgrown land in Ty Sign, Risca, has been given a makeover with the help of more than 150 local school pupils.
Caerphilly County Borough Council’s Environmental Services department worked alongside pupils from Risca Comprehensive School and Ty Sign Primary School to clear up an overgrown and rubbish strewn area of scrubland in Ty Sign.
Cllr Lyn Ackerman, cabinet member for public services and housing said: “This fantastic makeover is another great example of what can be achieved when everyone works together to make our environment cleaner, greener and more attractive.
“It is pleasing to see local schools pupils getting so heavily involved in this initiative, and I am hopeful that their enthusiasm and commitment will help encourage others to take just as much pride in their environment too.”
Caerphilly County Borough Council has been shortlisted for a prestigious ‘National Environmental Award’ after undertaking the environmental improvement initiative in Ty Sign. They will discover the outcome later this month.
