Caerphilly county borough rated highly for business start-ups

News | Richard Gurner | Published: 10:00, Monday April 2nd, 2012.

Caerphilly County Borough has been ranked in the top ten places in Wales for adding growth to the local economy through businesses start-ups.

Research by the BBC has shown that Caerphilly County Borough’s new business base growth over the period 2010 to 2012 as being one of the best in the Valleys.

While the whole of Wales actually saw a 0.3% decrease in the number of companies operating, Caerphilly showed a positive growth in trading businesses in the area.

Anthony O’Sullivan, chief executive of Caerphilly County Borough Council, said: “I am pleased to see that Caerphilly is being recognised for its contribution to the national economy. Local businesses are the life and soul of our borough and continual growth will go a long way to providing more employment for our communities.”

The local authority has pointed to its various business initiatives for its success with start-ups.

The council said its ‘Go2MyTown’, which was launched last year to get more businesses online in the Heads of the Valleys area, has provided new businesses with a platform to start out and have encouraged residents to buy local products and services.
