Plaid Cymru councillors are campaigning for a new train station for Crumlin.
Councillors Keith Lloyd and Vera Jenkins have had backing for their campaign from newly-elected Plaid leader Leanne Wood.
Ms Wood gave her backing during a recent visit to the county borough.
Cllr Lloyd said: “Vera and I are very pleased to have had the opportunity of showing Leanne Wood the many success stories in Crumlin including regeneration projects that have restored pride in our community.
“It’s a huge boost to have Leanne back our campaign for a new station at Crumlin and I hope this added momentum will lead to the project’s realisation.”
Cllr Jenkins added: “The reopening of the Ebbw Valley line has been a tremendous success with over a million passengers in the first year.
“Our campaign is all about maximising the benefit for local people. A station at Crumlin would be a boost for leisure but would also help in attracting jobs to the area.”
Ms Wood, during her visit, said there was more to come from her party and highlighted the campaign led by two councillors as an example of Plaid campaigning for the good of local communities.
The South Wales Central AM said: “Keith and Vera deserve congratulations for championing their local communities.
“Like all Plaid councillors, their local community is what motivates them. I am backing their calls for a new railway station at Crumlin. Plaid Cymru is committed to creating a sustainable transport infrastructure and a new station would be a huge boost for the area.”
