One mile walk to remember cot death victim taking place in Bedwas

A one mile walk and charity funday is being held on Saturday May 12 to raise awareness of cot death.

The event is being held to raise money for the Foundation for the Study of Infant Deaths (FSID) and is taking place at the Greenly, Bedwas, at 11am.

The one mile walk has been organised by Alison Hall and her family in memory of her son Aaron, who died 23 years ago aged just four.

Alison’s mother Kathy Dobson, of Trethomas, said: “This walk is carried out all over the UK at the same time and date.

“In previous years my family have had to travel to Bristol to take part, but this year we decided to do a local one. The support we have had has been amazing with 135 walkers taking part, and many local companies making donations of cash and raffle prizes.

“The walk will start at 11am, but we are asking people to come at 10.30am.”

Once the walk has been completed, the funday will begin at 12 noon and will include entertainment from Phantom of the Opera star Peter Karrie.

There will be stalls, a bouncy castle, raffles, auctions, refreshments and more.

Participants of the walk will each carry a balloon before they’re released en mass.

The funday ends at 4pm, but the entertainment will continue into the night from 6pm at the ‘Fly. Tickets for the evening cost £3 and can be bought on the door.
