Pupils from Hengoed Primary School have been helping to improve their local environment by taking part in a litter pick around their school grounds.
Several large bags of litter were collected from the site by pupils, with the help of Caerphilly County Borough Council’s Tidy Towns team.
Marion Thomas, headteacher of Hengoed Primary School, said: “Our pupils have helped to improve the environment and show genuine enthusiasm and pride for our local environment. Hopefully our efforts will be an example for the rest of the community to follow.”
Throughout the month of May, Caerphilly County Borough Council is encouraging schools, residents and community groups to grab their litter pickers, spades and wheelbarrows and join forces with the council for The Big Spring Clean 2012.
Litter pickers and refuse sacks are available for any groups or schools wishing to organise a clean up – the council will also arrange to collect the litter collected following the clean up.
