Independent retailers urged to back campaign

News | Richard Gurner | Published: 08:59, Friday June 8th, 2012.

Independent retailers in Caerphilly County Borough are being urged to back a campaign to boost trade.

Called ‘Independent’s Day’, the campaign will see local shops offer discounted products to encourage the public to buy local.

Andrew Highway, Caerphilly County Borough Council’s town centre manager, said: “Independent retailers are a vital part of our high streets, they offer a point of difference and at their very best provide customers with a true retail experience.

“Independent’s Day is part of a national campaign to support independent retailers and highlights the importance of using them. ”

The campaign, which is taking place between July 2 and July 7, has received the backing of the Blackwood Retail Partnership.

Huw Edwards, the organisation’s chair and owner of Tidal’s Stores said: “Despite challenging economic times on the high street, independent retailers continue to be the back bone of the high street.

“Like all independent retailers our individuality makes us adaptable, creative and have an in-depth knowledge of the products we sell. Independent traders have to be honest with their prices and are therefore more competitive than people realise and offer the consumer better value for money.”

If you are an Independent retailer and would like more information on contact Andrew Highway on 01443 866213.
