The majority of schools in Caerphilly County Borough have signed up for National School Sports Week (NSSW), being held later this month.
According to Sport Caerphilly, the council’s sport department, 94% of schools have signed up for the week being held between June 25 and June 29.
Events and activities will be taking place leading up and during NSSW, which will mainly be Olympic and Paralympic themed due the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games this summer.
Many schools have got involved already by taking part in their own mini Olympics and torch relays.
Cllr Harry Andrews, leader of Caerphilly County Borough Council, said: “This is a great opportunity for all schools within our county borough to be involved in such a wide variety of sporting activities leading up to the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games and beyond.
“The Sport Caerphilly team have done an excellent job in engaging schools and providing their support throughout. We are currently the leading local authority for the highest NSSW registrations and will have to ensure that we continue as leaders for 2012 and there after.”
