Nelson security guards found working without SIA licence

News | Richard Gurner | Published: 15:00, Friday June 15th, 2012.

Two construction site security guards were found working illegally without a valid SIA licence during an Security Industry Authority (SIA) investigation in Nelson.

Both guards, and the directors of the company that deployed them, are due to be interviewed at a later date.

The operation saw more than 30 security staff inspected during a multi-site inspection which included pubs, nightclubs, factories, construction sites and a retail park in the South Wales Valleys on Saturday June 9.

Of the 34 security personnel inspected five were found to be in breach of licence conditions, three for not properly displaying their licence and two for failing to notify the SIA of a change of their address.

Head of investigation Paul Cartlidge said: “Our operations are to target those who flout the law. We will be interviewing both security guards and taking action as appropriate.

“I also remind SIA licence holders of the importance of complying with the conditions of their licence, such as wearing the licence at all times while working and keeping their address up to date, as failure to do so can lead to their licence being revoked.”
