A group of artists embarking on a 22-day pilgrimage-style walk across Wales made their way to Caerphilly Castle on Wednesday.

The walk is part of Cauldrons and Furnaces – a series of events to mark the Cultural Olympiad.

The group started their journey at Llanthony Priory, near the border with England, on June 16 and are due to finish at St Davids Cathedral in Pembrokeshire on July 7. The walk is taking in several Cadw monuments such as Caerphilly Castle.

The Pilgrims spent the night in medieval bed chambers at the castle before setting off again on Thursday.

The walk takes its inspiration from historical pilgrimages.

Pope Calixtus II in 1123 declared that two pilgrimages to St Davids equalled one to Rome and as a result many followed the path.

Storyteller and guide Andrew Dugmore is leading the pilgrims.
