Islwyn Community Credit Union opens at Old Palace Library, Risca

News | Richard Gurner | Published: 17:00, Wednesday June 27th, 2012.

Islwyn Community Credit Union has opened a new branch at Risca’s new library at the Palace Cinema.

The credit union’s latest collection point is designed to help residents living in Risca and Crosskeys.

Set up in 1998, the union provides affordable credit and saving facilities for the community.

The new collection point, available on a Tuesday, joins a number of others across the borough including Markham, Trinant and Blackwood. It was launched recently by the Deputy Mayor of Caerphilly County Borough Council, Cllr Michael Gray.

Alongside the new credit union facilities, Independent Living Skills students from Coleg Gwent have also opened a new fruit and vegetable co-operative.

The new fruit and veg co-operative, run by the students will allow local people to buy healthy food at reduced prices with each bag of fruit, vegetables, stir fry or salad costing only £2.50.

Cllr Gray said: “Bringing new services to our communities is always forefront in the council’s agenda. A new collection point at Risca Palace for the Islwyn Community Credit Union will create a community hub in the building, where residents can access a number of services easily and conveniently.”
