Businesses urged to enter Canmol Wales Marketing Awards 2012

News | Richard Gurner | Published: 11:00, Thursday June 28th, 2012.

Caerphilly businesses are being urged to enter the 2012 Canmol: Wales Marketing Awards, organised by the Chartered Institute of Marketing.

The Canmol awards, which means to praise in Welsh, were created in 2008 to promote excellence in the marketing industry in Wales.

Caerphilly has produced two Canmol winners in recent years, including a campaign from Catnic and DS Smith Recycling’s Jade Bourke, who scooped the title of New Marketer in 2011.

From SMEs to large corporate firms and from public to private sector, Canmol is open to all business communities from across the country.

Four winning marketing campaigns will be chosen from entrants who display excellence in their particular field.

An additional Priority Sector Canmol Award and, new to 2012, Centre for Enterprise Canmol Award are also open to entries.

There are two individual awards to recognise an ‘Outstanding Marketer’ and ‘New Marketer’ for professionals.

All entries will be judged by twelve business and marketing experts under the Chairmanship of Dr Jonathan Deacon, Newport Business School and Chair of the Wales Board of the Institute. Professionals must enter online at www.canmol.com by the closing date of Tuesday July 31, 2012. Entry is free and you do not have to be a member of the Institute to apply.

The six winning campaigns and two individual accolades will be announced at an awards ceremony in October at Mercure Holland House Hotel in Cardiff.

Richard Houdmont, Director for Wales of The Chartered Institute of Marketing, said: “The entries get more innovative each year as marketers have to react to an ever-evolving industry and are faced with new challenges.

“Caerphilly businesses have demonstrated outstanding marketing through creative campaigns and excellent results in recent years of Canmol, and we urge marketers from the region to enter this year’s Awards.”

Dr Jonathan Deacon, Chair Judge, added: “Aside from the opportunities that come from winning a Canmol Award, the entry process is also a great team-building exercise. Writing an entry helps focus the minds of your marketing team on your organisation’s core objectives, making it a great time to revise your current business strategy.

“There is always a real buzz around the Awards and an immense sense of pride amongst shortlisted companies and individuals who are deservedly proud of their achievements. Canmol is free to enter, so take this opportunity to put the spotlight on your marketing success over the past year.”

Monica Gibson-Sweet, Dean of The Faculty of Business and Society at the University of Glamorgan said: “The Canmol: Wales Marketing Awards have been a massive success and as lead sponsor, The Glamorgan Business School recognises the importance of creative and integrated marketing, and is looking forward to building on this success.

“With 100% of our marketing graduates finding employment after graduation, we know that there is a huge amount of creative talent in Wales.

“We’re delighted to support these awards which allow the very best from the world of marketing to stand up and gain recognition for their achievements and I would like to encourage companies from all over Wales to enter the Canmol: Wales Marketing Awards 2012.”
