Ten tonnes of litter and waste were collected during a month-long volunteer-led clean-up.
During May, Caerphilly County Borough Council ran its ‘Big Spring Clean’ programme urging residents, school children and community groups to help clean-up their local local environment.
Schools including Hengoed Primary, Ty Sign Primary, Ty Newydd Primary and Ysgol Y Lawnt got involved by running their own litter patrols in and around their grounds.
Volunteers also did their bit by helping the council clean up areas “off the beaten track”.
Others supporting the campaign have included Waitrose, Tesco Crossways, Keep Wales Tidy, Fly Tipping Action Wales and Islwyn Ramblers.
In total, the month-long initiative has helped to clear approximately ten tonnes of litter and waste, including the recycling of over a tonne of vegetation overgrowth – cut back as part of the campaign.
Cllr Dave Poole, cabinet member for community and leisure services, said: “I would like to thank all those schools, groups, local businesses and individuals who have all done their bit to help improve the quality of their area.
“All this activity shows that residents and visitors to our county borough have pride in our area, and it is very much an example for us all to follow”.
