Sunday bus passengers up 20% in Caerphilly County Borough

News | Richard Gurner | Published: 17:01, Friday July 6th, 2012.

The number of passengers using bus services on a Sunday has increased by 20% in the last year, according to Caerphilly County Borough Council.

The local authority was recently praised for its work in boosting the number of people using the bus by the Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport (CILT Cymru).

The council’s Transport Team was handed an award for altering the timetabled services it subsidises to meet the needs of Sunday shoppers. The services were also designed to connect with train and other bus services.

Cllr Tom Williams, cabinet member for highways, transportation and engineering, said: “This award is testament to the dedicated team in the Transport Unit who have worked tirelessly to renew contracts for our local bus services in July 2011.

“They have successfully improved the Sunday services, not only to ensure easier travel for our residents, but in order to continue the council’s commitment to making our county borough a greener place to live, work and visit.”
