Record numbers cast their vote for Caerphilly’s Wheelbarrow Competition

This year’s annual Wheelbarrow Competition attracted over a thousand visitors to cast their vote for their favourite entry.

The annual event, part of Caerphilly Flower Festival, had 18 entries this year from schools and organisation across the borough.

The event was held on the same weekend as the Olympic Torch came to Caerphilly with 1,145 visitors to the town centre casting their vote.

Congratulations are awarded to Cwm Glas Infants School took 1st place, with The Twyn School and 1st Maesycwmmer Brownies taking 2nd and 3rd respectively. Winners have received vouchers to be spend at WHsmith and will be presented with certificates at an awards ceremony later in the year.

Leader of Caerphilly County Borough Council Harry Andrews congratulated all who took part.

He said: “I’d like to thank everyone for their magnificent efforts. The competition was tight with so many beautiful blooms and interesting ideas, so huge congratulations are due to those who won.”
