Delight for dancers at the CSSA ‘Got to Dance’ finals in Blackwood

Thirty-one dance acts from comprehensive schools across Caerphilly County Borough took part in a recent competition at Blackwood Miner’s Institute.

CSSA ‘Got to Dance’ finals incorporated a Year 7 and Year 8 competition and a Year 9, 10 and 11 competition in front of an audience of over 100 spectators.

First place in the Year 7 and 8 competition went to Elisia Cartwright from Blackwood Comprehensive School and first place in the Year 9, 10 and 11 competition to the dancing duo Leanne and Jasmine from St Cenydd Comprehensive School.

Second and third places in the Year 7 and 8 competition were awarded to Fusion from Ysgol Gyfun Cwm Rhymni and FYI from Pontllanfraith Comprehensive school respectively, while duo Abbie and Carys and individual Jasmine, both from St Cenydd were awarded joint second place in the Year 9, 10 and 11 competition with duo Hannah and Lilly, from Blackwood, picking up third place.

Cllr Rhianon Passmore, cabinet member for education and lifelong learning, offered her congratulations to the winners.

She said: “Congratulations to the winners, but also to all those who took part and worked so hard at choreographing some truly fantastic routines. The dances, along with the atmosphere created by holding the event in the Miner’s Institute, ensured everyone who attended enjoyed a great night of entertainment.”
