Environment Agency warns of more localised flooding as heavy rain forecast again

News | Richard Gurner | Published: 17:04, Thursday July 12th, 2012.

Environment Agency Wales is warning people to be vigilant for localised flooding as further heavy rainfall is forecast across Wales.

A band of heavy showers is due to affect most of South and mid Wales from Friday afternoon, continuing into the evening.

Some isolated showers may be particularly heavy, with a possibility of up to 30mm of rain falling within a very short period of time.

This may lead to localised flooding from drains and streams and standing water on roads and low-lying land.

The Agency is monitoring weather conditions and river levels closely and will issue warnings if river levels rise and flooding is expected.

Officers are out checking that flood defences are in good working order, and that rivers and drains are clear of blockages.

People are advised to be alert for any possible flooding and not to walk or drive through any flooding, and take care as driving conditions may be hazardous.

People should listen to local weather, news and traffic reports for the latest information and for reports of any local disruption in their area.

For the latest on flood alerts and warnings go to www.environment-agency.gov.uk/flood or call Floodline on 0845 988 1188.
