PHS Datashred wins recycling award

News | Richard Gurner | Published: 14:12, Monday July 16th, 2012.

A division of Caerphilly-based firm PHS has scooped a prestigious recycling award.

PHS Datashred, which securely destroys sensitive documents for companies, picked up the award for ‘Fleet Initiative of the Year’ at the National Recycling Awards. The prestigious event was held at the Lancaster London Hotel.

Over 600 key figures in recycling and waste management gathered to recognise and reward the leading companies in the industry. PHS Datashred nominated its scheme ‘PHS Footsteps’ which allows the company to monitor, and set targets to reduce, its environmental impact and operates alongside the Health, Safety and Environmental policies already in place.

Speaking about the award Caroline Williams, PHS Datashred Marketing Manager said: “The PHS Footsteps initiative has achieved excellent results across the board as part of its sustainability drive and we are thrilled it has been recognised at the National Recycling Awards.

“We have really focused our efforts on reducing fuel consumption and have made an annual saving of nearly 350,000 litres. I want to take this opportunity to thank all our staff for their commitment to this project and without their dedication to reducing waste we wouldn’t have had such a successful initiative.”

Former England Rugby star and Strictly Come Dancing competitor Austin Healey presented the awards ceremony entertaining the audience and congratulating the winners first hand.
